There’s more information on the MAD website now about the exhibition I’m a part of – I mentioned it last week. All very exciting. I don’t think I’ll be able to get there in person (which is a shame) but flattered and fascinated by the view of the bicycle and bicycle building it presents. Cycling does seem very fashionable of late. Let’s not forget the functional! The exhibition pages are worth a browse.

Another little movie

Here’s another clip from my video experiments. I still can’t get the sound to transfer so you’ll have to imagine (for now) the wind noise, occasional tire/trail fx and me muttering something or other at the end.

Next up might well be a rear facing camera looking at a six-speed set-up in action. For now it’s fresh air, Oregon mountains and a fat tire…

Busy - nothing to announce (yet)

Sorry, realize I haven’t blog’ed for a while but I’ve been busy. A few steel and titanium bikes have been built, prepped and shipped to customers and I’m doing a lot of new stuff too. Several plans are coming together pretty well and the future’s bright. It’s very much wait and see though - some very exciting developments and designs but nothing is properly sorted so I shall wait until it’s all exactly how I want it. And then I’ll present a few things here.

Two things I should mention though. Two Jones bicycles will be on display at an exhibition… Bespoke; The Handbuilt Bicycle at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York. I’m flattered to have been asked and glad my bike will be seen by a lot of people (many of whom won’t perhaps be cyclists themselves). You can read a little bit about it at artdaily.org and I’ll post some more information as I get it.

And it was this that also got me finally sorting myself out with some video capabilities (the second thing to mention). I’d been meaning to sort out some decent video capability - it has often helped me watch and analyze customers riding when building them bicycles (if I can’t get to ride with them in person) and I was keen to use video to see how I was riding and my bicycles reacting as I rode them.

It’s been interesting. I’ve mounted a camera on the bike in all sorts of places and got some excellent footage of wheels, tires, forks and stays as I’ve ridden my local trails. The one here is just a small tester. Once round the shop and out to the woods. Fat tire fun. More clips, more thoughts and a few new things as they’re available.
