What is a Jones?
A Jones bicycle is great for all kinds of riding, on-road and off, touring, commuting, bikepacking, technical trails, loaded or unloaded. The frames and forks are designed together (a frameset) so they work together to deliver a great handling bike. Jones Geometry. You are perfectly positioned (balanced) between the wheels. You sit back and upright, with less weight on your arms and your head up – the position is natural and very comfortable. They don’t ‘fit’ like ‘normal bikes’ – they really fit!
The Jones bike is a bike for riding fast, slow, the rough with the smooth; safely, aggressively, laid-back or raging; with a big load or stripped to the bare essentials; on road, dirt, mud, snow; in the mountains, on the flat lands, around town or across the county; around the world or your local loop; for getting rad or just getting away. The high performance bicycle that is efficient and comfortable.
Wheelbase? Short (Plus SWB) or Long (Plus LWB/Plus LWB HD/e)?
The SWB and LWB have the same fit. Both handle superbly on and off-road. The difference between them is the distance between the axles (the wheelbase) and the tires you can use with them. The LWB can fit tall 29 x 2.3 - 3.25” tires which (with its longer wheelbase) make it smoother and more stable on rough terrain than the SWB. It’s great for loaded rides. The SWB is a little more agile – it can fit 29 x 2.3 -2.6” or 27.5 x 2.8 - 3.25” tires. The SWB requires less effort to lift the front (or back) end – useful on very technical trails. The LWB is reassuringly planted on steep climbs and descents. The LWB HD/e has 1” longer chainstays than the LWB which provides a longer wheelbase with more stability, smoother ride, and creates more chainring clearance and room for a center kickstand mount.
What type of frame? Spaceframe or Diamond?
The geometry and fit (except for stand over height) is identical. The Spaceframe offers more vertical compliance and huge standover clearance but has less framepack carrying space. The Diamond frame costs and weighs less. It doesn’t have the standover or vertical compliance of the Spaceframe but with the bigger triangle you can use a larger frame pack.
Forks? Truss or Unicrown?
Most frames come with the Jones Truss fork – it is light and stiff. It delivers precise, accurate steering and does not flex or shudder when braking. It is available in titanium and steel. The steel Unicrown fork is heavier but easier to install, remove (and pack for a flight) and works with low-rider front racks and panniers and has bottle bosses. They all deliver the comfort and handling of a Jones.
What material? Titanium (Ti) or Steel (Fe)?
Ti is lighter and has a nice spring to the ride. It doesn’t rust or need paint so you get to see the beautifully bare metal. Steel has a good feel to it too that is stiffer and with a little more weight. Both are real and have a good feel.
What size? Small, Medium or Large?
The current Jones range can accommodate riders from 4’ 8” to 6’ 6” – the bikes (frames) come in Small Medium and Large sizes.
